flooded trunk / alternator life expectancy 700 91

Greetings,

The wheel wells inside the trunk of my 740 are soaking wet everytime after I drive through puddles. I initially feared undercarriage rot but when I pulled up the trunk liner, I saw no signs of holes or rust. Any ideas on what's causing this?

Also, my car has 178,000 miles w/ original alternator. Is this unusual for a 10-year-old car? How long do alternators typically last on a Volvo?

Thanks :)
