I believe I had this problem once. If I remember correctly, when you pull the switch out there are 2 wires going to it. You would think that the 2 wires are part of the same circuit going to and from the switch. However, the 2 wires are from 2 different sources.....the dome light and the ignition chime. In order to complete the each circuit circuit the switch must be screwed to the body thus grounding it.

I figured this out when I took the 2 wires and jumpered them together to see if I had a bad switch. When I did that nothing happened. But if I jumpered either wire to the body (ground) the light or ignition chime circuit was completed and the light/chime worked.

Therefore you could have the dome light side of the switch NOT working and still have the ignition side of the switch working. Make sure the screw that mounts to the body is not rusty as well as the switch base in which the screw goes through.

Hope this makes sense and I hope my memory was correct on this issue.
