AC compressor problem 200 1987

Hi FOlks:

Just tomight my wife drove our 240 home with a whining coming from the compressor. I have a feeling it is the clutch ready to burn out? I had a similar problem with my wagon . What is the best advice here? The car is a beautiful machine runs well clean etc..Is a retrofit the answer? Because I think a new compressor runs 400 to 500? And then what else is needed for the retrofit? Or should a functional clutch with compressor be installed and then go without AC? What is the general agreement for those who have been there and done that? I love this car and cannot afford a new one, but I do appreciate the cool on a hot summer's day...

Thanks,

Alan

Thanks for those who provided advice on my cruise/speedo problem---it's fixed!
