M46 bearing noise ? or what ? 700 1987

This is a 744TI with 115K . All bearings in trans. replaced by specialist 12 months/12K miles ago after serious grinding when `engine braking` in 2nd and 3rd. Ist gear its all too noisy to tell and 4 is direct drive. Something similar seems to be happening again, also in same gears but it sounds like a slight brake rub ( it`s not ! ) Oil level is ok and oil is clean. Dip the clutch & it goes so it`s drive train. I read somewhere that in some circumstances ( ? engine braking ) the rubber propshaft joint can intermittantly rub against ?? u/side of gear lever ? On examination I can see some evidence of rubbing in the rubber joint. Before I go down the road of tackling the Trans shop about the work they did has anyone got any less expensive ideas what it could be ?
