I just bought a 1983 242 with a B23FT engine. The downpipe (MVP 3 inch) is about 1.5 inch from the firewall and the turbo is very close to the side of the engine compartment. The turbo is a watercooled upgrade and is set at 10 psi using the wastegate adjustment. The heat from the downpipe and turbo are making the adjacent metal and paint extremely hot and causing a burning paint smell. Even the sparkplug wires are too hot to touch. Does anyone have any experience or ideas on how to cool the turbo and downpipe area? Would it help to remove the lower cowling? How about some sort of scoop and duct to get airflow into the area? A fan? Or should I just cover the adjacent portions of the engine compartment with some sort of insulating material - it seems better to remove the heat though.
Thanks
Keith
