No pass smog 200 83

I have recently purchased a 1983 242 turbo. First of I have read up on it and no one has said anything about it being intercooled. Mine is. Is it something special. Also it won't pass smog. It has high nox at noth idle and at 2500 rpms. Does anyone know any fixes. I only paid 1400 bucks for it so I pretty much got what he paid for but I think its worth it. I'm only 16 and this is my second Volvo. I love Volvos!
