wiper motor 444-544 63

Restored a 63 544, wipers (one speed) worked well for 3000 miles, then they would not shut off. The key turns off the wipers and the washer still works normally. Changed the switch but problem persists. I assume there is a problem in the motor drive, the auto shutoff in down position is not working. Any suggestions/fixes. Thanks. JIM
