/// There should not be a problem. I had a rebuild where the distributor was put in on the wrong gear position. The hot wire for the points can be grabbed by the steering ujoint and pulled out if it is in exactly the wrong position and the wire is too long.

If the gear on the distributor drive shaft is bad it will stop turning the distributor gear. I had a problem with a car that would run for a while and quit. It was a stripped gear on the distributor drive. The gear on the bottom of the distributor was good but one tooth was missing on the drive gear.
