940's gas mileage against a Wrangler's 900 1995

Even though a 1995 940 sedan weighs close to a '95 Jeep Wrangler, with almost the same 4-cylinder displacement, will the 940 still get better gas mileage than the 4wd Jeep? I have been told that even the heaviest 940 model will get better fuel economy than the lightest Wrangler. And I have heard both engines at idle; the Volvo B230F 2.3 four is quieter than the Jeep four or straight-six, wouldn't you agree?
