oil viscosity clarification beyond FAQ recommendation 700 89

I read the FAQ recommendation on which oil viscosity to use with my 89 745T. However, I am just a little confused on the recommendation. My car has 197k miles and today I changed the oil using 10w-30. I have a gallon of 15w-40 that I use for my VW TDi jetta diesel. I live in temperate climate where currently the temperature is 80-85 degrees. With this amount of mileage and temperate climate, is it advisable to use the 15W-40 during the summer and 10W-30 during the winter?
