WTD: Suspension Advice (Sensitracks?) 200 1983

Hi all,

Well the time has finally come to replace the rear suspension in our 83 GL Turbo (the rear shocks are rusted clean through!). We've already settled on cargo springs (we like to go camping and haul alot of gear on bad roads) and the bushings will need replacing too. Where we're getting stuck is picking the shocks. My brother-in-law who races his car and works for a performance shop uses Monroe Sensitrack in his car and says they're great (but his car is lighter and has a much different configuration). The two mechanics at the shop I go to were polar opposites on the Sensitrack, one saying it'll make the ride soft and mushy, the other saying it won't.

What I'm really after is improved performance (right now the car tends to jump laterally at the back end if cornering over bumps) and a reasonably comfortable ride (most of our kms were accumulated just cruising around, burning gas). While I'm not a racer I do tend to enjoy getting into a little more "spirited driving" from time to time. I'd also like to get away without plunking down my entire tax return for this job.

Is there anyone with simillar driving demands and experience that can tell me what they've used and how well it worked for them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please email me at clubshub@hotmail.com with your suggestions and I will try to keep an eye on this board as well.

Thanks in advance!

Boris
