Engine Temp 140-160 72

I want to install a mechanical temp gauge along with a few other gauges in my 144. I don't want to remove the existing temp sender so where else could I put the second sender?

Could I put it next to the thermostat (B20B:on the exhaust side there a small cover....don't know why it's there), and if I did, what temp would I expect to run at? (82degC thermostat, but mech gauge showed 86degC at rear of engine when gauge was new)

Thanks Heaps!!!!!!!!
