I have the same problem and found the same cause, however the nuts where terribly loose and I just tightened them. I think the cable is currrently too tight because I have to slightly let up on the throttle to engage 3rd and 4th gears. Otherwise the transmission is fine and the fluid is at its correct level and color. I will take the recommendation to loosen it some to see if this helps.
