Exhaust options... 900 1991

I know I posted a similar question a few months ago, but here we go again...

A recent under-the-car excursion reinforced the notion that I will need a new cat-back before I can pass Virginia inspection in June. I have a very reputable custom muffler shop close to home (they did some stainless work on my 1996 Saturn).

I think I would like to go with a higher flow 2.5" set-up instead of the current factory 2.25". My preference would be to have the exhaust not be too noisy, but a bit more noise would be OK. I am also thinking about eliminating the little curly-q at the tailpipe by using a straight tailpipe.

A visit to the MVP website indicated that they are no longer selling their 940 Turbo 2.5 system. IPD does not have a 2.5" system for the 940 Turbo. I am sure the custom shop can come up with what I want, but what performance benefits should I expect with a higher flow 2.5" exhaust? Would I need to do an airbox mod to realize an improvement?

Any ideas or opinions are welcome.
