Can Lube Sedan Rear Seat Belts?

Both rear seat belts on my 1990 sedan do not retract readily, which is a problem for me with my kids in the back. I am figuring the springs are getting tired. I have removed and cleaned the belts, and will wax the guide loops as legitimate maintenance. But is there some legitimate way to lube the mechanism itself to increase retraction? Thanks....
