suspension 700 1990

I am the proud owner of a 1990 760 GLE in UK (there does not seem to be many modified Volvos here!) I want to uprate and lower the suspension on my 760 saloon. Unfortunately the independent rear suspension is causing problems in finding a kit. I'm told that the Nivomat mountings are the problem. Has anyone carried out the conversion which i have heard a little about to get lowered springs and uprated dampers on all four corners of this car? Is it a safe conversion? does it still mean that the suspension act independently? I'm only looking to lower the car a small amount because i have got 17" wheels. Please help because this could be the start of many more modifications!
