Follow-up: No hot-start/mail fuel pump not running 200 84

A while ago I posted (and hosted) about this problem where the main fuel pump would not run each time I moved the key to the start position. It also became a wider problem, seemingly heat related, bacause after parkig the car for a while, the symptoms would appear and take even longer to finally engage.

Worse, the car began shutin off while driving!

Suggestions ranged from the fuel pump relay to ignition switch to coil to ignition module and engine wiring.

It was the SYSYEM relay (not the main pump relay)

A plastic cover, not the metal cube.

I got lucky and noticed the cover was cracked and ill-fitting over the electro-mechanical guts. I pulled it only to find that the RTV I used a year ago to try to glue the cover on had melted into the contacts, fouling them.

No wonder it was heat related. Each time the relay warmed up, a little more of the RTV melted deeper into the contact mechanism!

I'm getting too old for this....
