Rocker panel trim 200 1990

The front and rear fasteners on the rocker panel trim are broken and the trim has pulled away from the rocker panel at each end. It appears that the fastener is a part of the trim. It is not the plunger type fastener that is on my 87s. When I explain this to guy at the parts window at the local dealership, he looks on his computer and tries to sell me the plunger clips for $1 each.

Has anyone dealt with this problem? Is there some clever way to refasten the ends of this trim or do I need to buy a whole new piece of trim?
