A/C Compressor Clutch

My 1996 965's A/C compressor clutch has been making some noise while disengaged. It is completely quiet while engaged. Upon inspection, I found that 2 of the 3 metal flex strips that attach the inner drive disc to the outer drive disc are stress-fractured and broken in half. The compressor is now being driven by the remaining strip. So it looks like the A/C compressor clutch will need to be replaced... does anyone know if this is easy to replace? Are there any special tools required? Can it be done in the car? Can the compressor & R134 be left undisturbed? I'd like to repair it myself if possible but not if it requires alot of special equipment. Also, what is likely to happen if the remaining drive strip lets go?

TIA
