My car is hotter than democrats in China! HELP PLEASE ASAP! 200 84.5

ok, so here's where stupidity gets you. I purchased my 245 turbo in november, when the weather wasn't too hot. The PO said that the thermostat had been replaced so the temp guage would read about 1/4 of the guage travel too low. Here in central california, temps go from 30 degress to 110 degrees each year. Having these past couple weeks the hottest this year so far, i've come to realize that a stock '84 B21FT with air conditioner running do not get along with mr. sun when he's too active.

I was driving in city traffic 4 days ago with the a/c on when i noticed the car getting rather warm. I thought i turned off the a/c, however the knob is old and gets stiff the closer you get to off, and i think it was left on accidently. The car continued to get very hot and the engine eventually died on me. The was still crankable, it just wouldn't start.

Now i've never overheated an engine before, and after letting it sit until dusk, it started and still runs, however i must hold the gas down a bit and crank for aobut 2 seconds to get it starting. My questions are what do i need to check as far as damage goes and what would y'all recommend as far as improving the cooling efficiency of the car? That stock radiator looks like it could use something bigger. Any bigger radiators out there that do a good job and also fit with intercooler? What about changing to an electric fan? what fans and wiring work best? Please keep in mind the temperatures in my area and that the car's cooling efficieny must be improved, for i can't go much longer without being allowed to run the a/c in fear of everheating again.
