Intermittant Problem, Suspect Flywheel Timing Ring 900 93

I've been struggling with an intermittant no power problem. This is a Regina set-up 940 wagon. The symptom is that all of a sudden there is no power. The symptom can come at any time, right after start-up, or after warmed up and running for awhile. There is never a fault code in the memory. Everything always checks out fine. Lately, its been doing it more frequently, unfortunately with my wife driving it.

The bad news is that the flywheel timing ring (carrier plate?) was inadvertantly bent in one location by yours truly, and straigtened by yours truly (I won't bore you with the details, but you can imagine how it happened). I'm thinking that this is the problem as I imagine the impulse sensor likes a uniform gap to take its reading from. Anyone got experience in this area? I'm guessing that every now and then the reading goes haywire or out of sync, and the car runs like crap. Usually stopping for a few minutes and re-starting.

OK, so what have I done over the last 6 months. Replaced the POS GM fuel pump, as this is a typical symptom of a failing pump. Cleaned throttle plate and adjusted microswitch per Volvo manual. As a precaution, threw in a new coil/power module as I found they can go bad with no fault code (since this car takes long trips, I carry a few spares). Checked cap/rotor/plugs/wires, etc. Looked for errant ignition shorts. Basically, found nothing, so, I'm back to the flywheel timing ring and impulse pick-up. I haven't changed the impulse sensor yet, but I have one ready to go.

Feed me you thoughts, as always, thanks in advance,

Mike
