tire sizes 700 1989

I recently bought a 1989 740 wagon with 195/60/15 tires installed on it.

The door post decal gives tire pressures for 185/65/15 tires.

the owners manual says to use 185/70/15 in the winter.

My suspicion is that the door post is telling me that the OE tires were 185/65/15.

Since new tires will be required soon I am looking for opinions concerning sizing and good handling. This is not a perfomance minded car, just a family all around vehicle.

Even though many postings sugest separate summer amd winter tires, is this really that critical? (We are in southern Wisconsin.)

I would like to hear opinions concerning these issues with some recommendations for size, make and model of tire. Please
