Air Mass Meter diagnostics 200 1988

I have the following trouble: engine starts and idles fine...even runs great for about 10 miles. Then it begins to stall, can only keep engine running by playing the throttle..

I and others suspect the Air Mass Meter. Before I go into replacing this expensive part, I want to know If I can do more diagnostics: I already measures the values at the terminals, they seem fine. Question: Can it still be that after a while the values change or the AMM disfunctions because of heat? Are there other ways of checking this part out?

Can an AMM be fixed? Or does it need to be rebuilt?
