What is this tinking sound from my car? 700 87

Hey there - I have my lovely 87 745 that makes a tinkling sound when I am cruzing along at any speed above 15-20 mph. I can describe it slightly like dragging a chain on the ground or ?? it has absolutely no bearing on the speed of the car (other than it stops below 15-20 mph) it does not matter if the car is in gear or not, or if the engine is running or not. Will not change if i step on the brakes or pull the parking brake. no change if I steer.... so what gives?

it sounds like it is coming from the underside of the car - in the middle somewhere - and I checked the cat heat shield - that is not it...

thanks for your input...
