Dwell/tach meter instructions needed 200 1979

Just picked up a free dwell/Tachometer meter at a garage sale. It has been to long since I've used one of these. What do I hook it up to? What exactly is dwell and tach? Also noticed it has a scale that tells you the condition of the points (good or bad) There is also a switch on it not sure what this is for. My guess is it's to go between dwell and tach. Would appreciate any advice/knowledge. Thanks...
