What the difference in the 2.3 in a 740 vs. 240 700 1991

Besides the distributor being toward the rear of the engine on a 2.3 740 and the distributor toward the front under the intake on the 240 motor what else is different about them. Are they both are equally reliable? I have 262k on my '89 240 wagon, 5 speed today. And can those engines be swapped? Thanks for all your input.
