Increased horsepower after closing heated air flap. Is it possible???? 200 88

During cleaning the airbox in '88 240 B230F , I noted the heated air vent flap fully open when it is supposed to fe fully closed at temps greater than 60 degres F. (about 80 degrees here in Florida). Thus allowing only heated air to reach airbox. I removed airbox thermostat and tried to replace with new one (what a bitch of a job). I couldn't replace the thermostat but ended closing heated air vent good. The brick is running smoother and has more power on take off. Is this possible? Does sealing heated air vent increase horse power? I have a '92 740 with same engine and I would like to same thing. Aany cooments or suggestions on this matter are really appreciated.
