Steering Wheel Removal 1800 1973

Having recently rebuilt the steering on my ES, I now need to reset the steering wheel to align properly (spokes at 10 and 2).

Seems the best approach is to pull the steering wheel and reset it correctly but I want to avoid any damage.

I have reffered to all three of my books and looked in the archives but find no specific directions.

Assuming I need to pop the center cover to access the bolt and pull the wheel to reset it, my questions are:

1. Do I pry behind the chrome trim, removing the entire center piece or do I pry between the chrome trim and the black filler?

2. Once the bolt is removed, do I "thump" the back of the wheel to get it loose or will it require a puller?

Thanks in advance for the help.

P.S. After 2 weeks of delving into "hard starting when cold", "poor/ rough idle" and "general malaise", I cleaned the ground point and connectors for the FI wires and Voila!: She's running like a CHAMP!
