Back in the day... 200 1979

I had access to a distributor machine....used it to set @#$% Mallory dual point distributor. Only way IMHO.

If you have access to a distributor machine they'll tell you a lot about the condition of the distributor.

If you choose to stay with the points go ahead and set them according to the points other posters have made. Use a little dab of grease before the rubbing block relative to the direction of rotation of the point cam.

But if you really want to do it right, ELIMINATE the points with any one of several available point eliminators. Pertronix comes to mind. Once you've eliminated the points you don't have to mess with the ignition system except for plugs and wires, cap and rotor. Say every 30K for plugs and 60K for wires cap rotor. The increase in mileage and performance alone not to mention the points cost (availability may be an issue) and aggravation justify it.
