Re: no start when hot 700 1988

Brian: Thanks for the input, I have a spare and will try the replacement when it strikes again - ie positively confirm that it is the problem.

Mark, the following describes your questions (I believe):

1) The engine is the classic non-turbo, I believe you are correct with the b230f designations

2) As I am not the original owner of the vehicle, I would have to believe the odometer that states 204,000 Km (125,000 mi).

3),4)&5) Regarding immediate restart, in all situations it appears to start immediately after the engine is turned off (ie. hot). It really only shows its face when the motor is sat for more than 5 minutes. If it starts (and that is generally 90% of the time), it starts without the throttle needing to be depressed. However, on occasion, it does appear to be running rough for a few seconds. It then immediately straightens out. Touching the throttle afer a start and rough idle does not straighten the problem out. It immediately stalls. Fuel addition to the problem does not seem to be the answer.

6) To the best of my knowledge, no mechanical changes have been initiated except for the following:

Winter time I replaced the thermal sensor to the computer, but the original one was found not to be defective. Note during last cold winter, the car on occassion flooded itself. I fixed this by installing a parrellel circuit to the computer where I can insert 1/4 watt resisters to trick the computer into thinking the motor is above 140degrees F. This was successful but doesn't appear to help now.

Rob: Been through the FAQ's a number of times and tested the likely culprits.

As a general addition, it may be an over richening/flooding problem that definitely occured in the winter, with a slight different twist. Still do not smell any gasoline fumes though? I have not removed the spark plugs to check for fuel, but it is going to be one of my next tasks when this reappears.
