Make sure you have the new RPM sensor with the white mark. The old one has a yellow mark. Volvo part number 271949. $55.

The wire runs from a connector in the center of the firewall, to the top of the bell housing. The sensor at the bell housing is a little hard to reach. I ran a long ratchet extension down along the firewall.
