Larry and I have been discussing the part off line, and we both now think it is a spark gap. AG 20 made by TAIYO whoever that is/was. Anyhow, I found one in an old decomissioned volvo radio and mailed it to LK who may be able to do some further research.

I was able to see where it was in the circuit, antenna to ground DC-wise. My ECG and SK books were from 1980. The pleasure of that is I remember picking them up long after I stopped needing them on a regular basis...
