How to adjust timeing on 740 GL? 700 1990

After changeing the timeing belt on my 1990 740 GL a while back, Im not sure if we got the timeing correct. For a while, the car is really slow at wide open throttle until about 3,000 RPM or so and my father and I were wondering if there is a way to move the distributor to gain some timeing. What else would you guys suggest could be causing this loss of power? Thanks for the help!
