A/C Question 700 1986

MY daughter's 740 GLE has lost all the freon. Last year the hoses and accumulator were replaced and it ran fine for the summer. So this year I changed all over to R-134a when I discovered it was too low to run. It now holds a charge less than a day.

My question is: Does anyone know what the filter looking item on the a/c line under the front passenger side fender is? Is it a filter with a pop-off valve? It's shaped llike a round filter with the line going in and out, but to one side it has a round piece off of it. This item appears to be leaking freon and oil from the system. Any Ideas?
