Mystery charging system issue 444-544 64

This one's new to me...never seen it before. Hopefully someone out there has...

The POS 544 has been sitting since I parked it last Monday evening. It was working fine when I parked it. I went out this morning to hit some garbage sales, started it up, and it looked like my turn signal was on from the light flashing on the dash. Lo and behold, it wasn't the turn signal indicator...rather, it was the amp light. on-off-on-off-on-off...about the same speed as a turnsignal, but no signal was on.

The car also has an aftermarket amp light, and it was reciprocating between 0 and about 55 amps positive. Considering the stock system should only charge at about 25 amps peak, I'm a bit confused.

The only thing I did to it over the few days it was parked was remove the battery (with the car off), and put it back in. I havn't done anything yet to try to diagnose this....but if anyone has any suggestions, I would live to hear them. I'd like to have it working by this afternoon if possible.

Thanks,

Matt B
