ZF transmission noisy in first gear - help! ALL

I had my 1991 940 2.3i GL checked over by an independent Volvo shop

yesterday and they found that the ZF transmission had a noisy 1st gear.

I suppose that I do hear something if I really try but it sounds very minor

to me, assuming that I even hear the same noise they do.

The car is still under warranty from the garage who sold it to me so I'm not

really concerned about costs here but I am curious. Are they just being very

fussy (for my benefit), or does the car have a real problem?

I should add that my 3 prior 700s had AW tranny's so I'm not at all familiar

with the ZF.

Also, what would be the first signs of a ZF tranny going bad? How do you

repair a ZF with a noisy first gear?

Thanks,

Rob
