Throttle position sensor - Idle adjustment? 200 92

My car has the lh jetronic 3.1? system and my haynes book doesn't go that far to help me adjust the idle. It was low to start with and now with a new cam and increased vacumn? it's aggravated. The idle runs up and down sometimes and stays low and/or the car shuts off. Years ago we had trouble with the car shutting down on hot days and ac on while in park or shifting into drive. The dealership(morons) said they needed the car overnight and cold the next morning to diagnose. I quit using them since they screwed up some other simple repairs. Should or can I do this myself or should a qualified mechanic with diagnostic tools do this.
