Trailer Hitch on 245? 200 84

We're about to move from California to Illinois, and I'd very much like to get both my 1984 245 and my 1975 Fiat Spider "project" car from here to there. I'm thinking about towing the Fiat behind the Volvo, using a U-Haul tow dolley. A few questions:

(1) How advisable is it to tow a 2300 lb vehicle 2400 miles, across the Rockey Mtns, in the middle of summer, behind an older (but well maintained) 240?

Assuming I'm not out of my mind in even thinking about this:

(2) What's the best hitch to use? OE Volvo (off a junker) or something like Draw-Tite?

(3) How tough is installation? I've heard something about drilling holes...

(4) How tough is it to make a wiring harness?
