Re: Swapping Water pump. Any Gotchas? 200 1983

Mike -

My 1983 and 1984 are not turbo, so there may be some differences. There are just a few gotcha's. When removing the bolts and studs from the crank pulley, DO NOT round off any nuts. They seem to be a softer material and I rounded off a few. 2) On re-assembly, the O-ring seals on the top side of the water pump require that the pump be installed but only finger tight. Then use something to force the pump upward with one hand and tighten the bolts with the other. I never pulled the radiator for this job, some have said doing so makes it lots easier.

Good Luck,

Bob

PS I have had no cooling system coolant-related problems since I started using a mixture of 50/50 antifreeze and steam distilled water.
