srs light 900 92

I have a '92 960 and it has 145000 miles on it. Some times when I start the car I see the SRS light come on and stay on. Whe this happens I can't engage the gear shift. It absolutely will not engage. I turn off the ignition and turn it back on and it works fine then and the SRS light goes out. This seems to be happening more frequently now. I called Volvo and asked if there was any relation between the Supplimental Restraint and the gear shift and they said absolutely not. I tend to disagree because this has happened so many times. I think the airbag may need servising after so many miles and this is the way they make you do it. Like the service light that comes on after 10,000 miles to alert you to change oil, etc. Please advise of any comments on this.

Thanks,

Bill Poole
