Blue Lead to Ignition Coil Positive Terminal Always Correct?? 700 87

Hello

We were trying to help a friend get his 87 740 going. When we first arrived we noticed the blue lead was hooked up to the negative terminal on his coil. It seemed to me that that was wrong. All the cars I seen at the salvage yard are wired the opposite. Eventually we had to leave so we never got to see the car running. Whats your thoughts. Also if we want to see if there is power to at least the coil can you hook up a test light to one of the coil posts. Instead of checking for spark with the wire set. Thanx Bill
