Does anyone know how to change a shift knob? 200 1980

Well I done it again. I spilled raspberry ice tea in the part where

you change gears. Although damage done (hope not) All those

brissly (did I spell that right?) are know tougher then nails!

Its an automatic trans. What I want to do is, soak the part where it has "P, R, N, D, 1, 2" plastic cover. So that all those bristles are not hard. The only thing I could do is unscrew the two top screws and move it up, till it hits the shift knob. Now How do I take off the shift knob to cclean the plastic cover?

please help!!

thanks

AL
