Electric fan conversion-best temp probe mounting location? 200 1981

I've just installed a GM 16" electric fan from a Park Ave into my B21FT with original (metal) two core radiator. I used the Hayden adjustable temp control, the kind that has the metal probe that goes in between the fins on the radiator. My problem is that the control temp is set to the max (210F) and the fan runs constantly once the thermostat opens, does not cycle on and off, and even with the engine off for about 30 minutes now the fan is still running when ignition is on. The fan does keep the engine cool when running, and I'm not concerned about that, but it does occur to me that it should cycle on and off. The radiator is cold, except that top corner which is still hot, and my thinking is that the location of the temp probe, right next to the inlet for water, and under the solid corner of the fan shroud, is not allowing the probe to ever cool down enough to turn the fan off. The Hayden instructions did say to mount it as close as possible, but should I move it somewhere a little cooler?

So where should I mount the probe? Where do those of you who have done this consider the best location? Should I move mine? Or am I totally on the wrong track.

Picture below is stolen from Dave Barton's fan site for graphic example, arrow shows approx location of my temp probe.

Thanks

Logan
