Stop?...Can't. Brakes Out Suddenly 200 1985

I have had a strange new problem with my 1985 240DL...When driving around in the city...My brakes were working fine one minute and the next minute they weren't. The brake pedal went almost to the floor. NO brake failure light came on. No fluid loss. No recent opening of the system. Could it be the vaccum booster? How can I check? After trying to search for the problem...The brakes were fine again...until I got to work this morning. Help please.
