Re: HELP :What is the best carb for b23e ? (no text) 200 1981

I don't know where you are or what you can get but I took the

Zenith Stromberg 175-CD2s off my 164 and threw them away in

about 1983. I replaced them first with SU HS6 carbs and then

with SU HIF6, which bolt right up and seem to be working very

well.

The Z-S carbs work well when they are brand new but are near-impossible

to adjust and the diaphragms, temp compensators and bypass valves tend

to become maintenance nightmares. While also requiring adjustment,

the SUs are a lot easier and don't have diaphragms. I reduced my carb

maintenance about 85% on my 164 when I changed to SUs. No difference

in performance.
