I had an '80 240 with speakers in the tailgate. The installation took some metal cutting but the sound was good with an amp to boost the power. The only drawback was the weight of the speakers made the tailgate close on my head a few times. Maybe I needed new struts. If you do this don't let the tailgate slam down and your speakers will last longer. I don't know how the tailgate wiring is routed on a 740. The heavy wires required for a good speaker installation may be a problem.
