Are steel brake lines OK? 200 84

the hard brake lines from the front calipers to the flexible brake hoses wouldn't come loose. Had to hack them out.

The local parts stores all sell steel 3/16" ID brake lines, which I'll also need to bend.

But I see the Volvo lines are copper, brass or copper/nickel.

Probably for a good reason.....

Am I inviting trouble by using steel replacements?

Anybody know what these dual lines cost from Volvo? Is there any other source? NAPA?
