I hope you're unplugging and replugging the AMM with the ignition off.

Try squeezing shut one of the large (~3/4") rubber hoses from the idle air valve (IAV). If the idle drops, then the IAV is the source of the extra air.

It's possible the throttle switch is defective, disconnected, or the throttle is out of adjustment. This switch closes when the throttle returns to idle, and the switch tells the FI ecu to engage the IAV (also called the CIS motor for "constant idle speed"). If the ecu never knows that the throttle is at idle, it won't attempt to control idle.

You may have already damaged your AMM. These are sensitive devices.
