Re: Help! Wobble after letting off gas at 50 mph 200 1993

Just a few questions...

1.) Is the Transmission - Manual or automatic? (I suspect automatic, or you would have mentioned the problem happening in certain gears...)

2.) Does the shifter move side to side when this "wobble" occurs? If such is the case, suspect soft or broken engine and/or transmission mounts. The mounts are designed as a safety feature, and deteriorate over time. This is a scheduled maintenace item.

3.) The third thing I would consider, are the front end rubber bushings. These are what isolates the front end from road noise and road vibration.

What occurs when you run over railway tracks?? Are there any clicking noises when the wheel is turned sharp in either direction??

4.) The other items that may be suspect are the Tie rod ends and or the ball joints. If these are loose, they must be replaced before an alignment. If they are very loose - steering failure could occur suddenly. I don't want to alarm you but this is an area that is crucial - believe it or not I had a shop mechanic (at a franchise type muffler/brakes/steering shop align my car with a loose tie rod - ruined a new set of tires in less than a week. So I took the car to a front end speacialty shop - they spotted the loose ball joint immediately.

Someone else may have more knowledge than I on the subject. These are just a few things worth considering.

As far as an alignment...

Is the car pulling either way?

Are the front tires showing and irregular wear?

Regards

Gordon Hull
