Hey all,
I've already posted something on this a while ago, but i still can't fix my problem....my steering rack itself is okay, no leaks, steering appears to work 100% while hot, about 98% when cold.... Now, i've had a clunking in my front end for AGES, it has slowly gotten worse over time, i was checking the other day (with the boots off the inner tie rods ends - It is a CAM rack...) and i found the source of the clunking....the rod which goes into the rack (with the teeth on it...obviously where the gears go from the steering column)....now this bar moves about 1-2mm up and down (in line with the gear teeth) when you shake the inner tie rod connection hard....I don't understand how this is as loose as it is, but believe me, it is a definate CLUNK when going into my drive way, not bad at high speeds, but over a rough dirt road, it feels very loose...... Is there anything that holds this bar in-line and stops it from moving?? i am guessing somehow the rack is stuffed.....but surely this isn't normal?? has anyone else noticed this problem? how safe is it to drive the car like this? (i plan on driving quite a few 1000's of km's with it like this if i can!!! I can't afford this yet!).....Can anyone help me? Does anyone know someone who i can e-mail or someone in Australia i can visit?? Please help, i am getting desperate@!!
Thanks,
Azza
